The leadership of building a nation

As someone that grew up in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the nation. I have always found the Fourth of July a special holiday. It is truly a time to stop and take note of the amazing leadership our forefathers showed in crafting the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and laying the building blocks that would become the foundation of the greatest country on the planet. History can only attempt to convey the conflict and questions that I am certain were going through their minds as they took the actions and demonstrated their leadership by doing what was right in the face of those issues.

Now, not all was right with that time, as there was slavery and oppression even in what would become the USA, but for our forefathers to do what was right and forge this great nation, we should step back from our BBQs and fireworks and for a moment, celebrate their heroic deeds.

What is LeaderShap?

Good Day. I am Steven A. Shapiro, PMP, PMI-ACP. I am a credentialed Project Management Professional and an Agile Certified Professional. I work for AT&T in the role of Senior-Technical Process/Quality. I am also an MBA candidate, about to graduate, from the Jack Welch Management InstPitute through Strayer University. Lastly, I am a founding volunteer member of the Project Management Institute Social Media Advisory Group, where I am part of a five member team that advises the global organization on Social Media.

Now, I say all that to say this – I have a bit of knowledge when it comes to leadership, but even having spent the last two years learning practically directly from one of the greatest business leaders who ever lived, Jack Welch, himself, I am on a journey that will never end. Leadership is not a destination. It is not something you reach a certain point and then say, “Okay, I’m finished, I have it now, thanks.” No, one is constantly learning and evolving, or at least should be. So that, then is a measure in and of itself. If any individual charged to lead you, ever feels like they have reached a point where they know everything, run as fast as you can the other way.

This site will serve as a blog for me to share my leadership journey with you. I will be blogging about how I am applying Jack’s principles to my daily work; both professionally and in my volunteer efforts. I also have an email list, which, by subscribing, you receive a twice weekly newsletter of some great stories from around the web on leadership. I will also be launching a Podcast starting soon, where I interview leaders I know and respect on how their leadership journey. You can always follow me on Twitter or connect with me on LinkedIn by clicking the links on the sidebar. Lastly, I want to thank you for taking the time to learn about who I am and how my leadership has evolved, so look for some great content here in the near future.
